FAQ

Some of you may have concerns over doing business online: specifically regarding entering your financial or personal data on a web form. This page attempts to address the most common questions.

Registration

Help me -- I can't register or login!
This is how the reisgration process works: 1. You sign up for a new account and choose your username. 2. The system emails you a temporary password. 3. You log in using this temporary password and immediately change it to something you can remember. 4. From then on you use your own password to log in.

The temporary password you recieve is good for one login only. It says so in the email. The website also reminds you of this once you log in using the temporary password. It is your responsibility to choose a new password forthwith.

I've forgotten my password.
There is a link that says, "Request new password" that will help you reset your password if you forget it. Tech support cannot retrieve a forgotten password.

I've forgotten my username.
Your username should be in the email you received after first registering on the website.

Why is registration so difficult?
It needs to be doable only by humans because there are spam-bots out there that will register with websites that have low security. By requiring higher brain functions, our registration process helps to assure us that you are in fact a human.

Ecommerce and Security

Why do I need to register on your site to purchase an episode? I'm sick of registering with websites.
So are we. But we need the city and state of your residence for tax purposes; Colorado charges sales tax on digital downloads. Ridiculous? Perhaps. It would certainly make our jobs a lot easier if they didn't. But they do. All other personal information is optional (but helps us better serve you). Besides, if you want to post comments on blog entries or topics in the forum, you'll need a login. You know the drill. (If you don't know the drill, we're happy to help.)

Why isn't your website encrypted?
Because it doesn't need to be. Once you submit your order, our website redirects you to PayPal's secure site where all payment information is handled by PayPal on a secured connection. Once you complete or cancel payment, PayPal will send you back to our website. As a general rule don't enter your financial information unless the browser indicates you have a secure (SSL) connection. Usually the browser indicates this with a lock or some other icon.

SSL means secure communication between the browser and the server. We only tell PayPal what you want and how much it costs. They handle getting your money. Then they tell us when you've paid for it which automatically makes the file available for you under "my files." See? Couldn't be simpler.

And on the off chance that someone's sniffing packet data from our server, we recommend you choose a password and username that doesn't compromise any critical accounts you may have at other websites.

Do I need to enter a credit card number?
Not necessarily. NVP uses PayPal to handle our payments. They accept credit cards, but they also offer other means of funding your purchases. You can create a PayPal account and deposit to it using personal check, EFT from a bank account, or credit card. We don't take your money directly so you don't have to worry about us.

Will you spam me?
Absolutely not. Never. Not under any circumstances. But be aware: When you register for this site you are added to a group called "Newsletter Subscribers." You can quickly and easily remove yourself from this list if you poke around "my account" a bit. But then you wouldn't know what's going on here without checking the website yourself, now would you? Well, okay, if you want to stay informed about NVP there are other tools available to you such as subscribing to forum topics or blog entries. But our newsletter is designed specifically for you. It will be short and sweet and to the point. And there will always be an unsubscribe link in the newsletter email itself. In fact our mass mailing tool won't let us send one without an unsubscribe link, so you're safe with us.
